Bradley Quinton believes Enfield Town can reach the play-offs if they continue their recent form, but warns it is too early to get carried away by the prospect of a top-six berth.

The Towners have risen to 11th place in the Isthmian Premier Division – six places and eight points outside the top five – but have only lost one of their last seven league fixtures and suffered one defeat in ten in all competitions.

Asked what his aims were for the rest of the season, Quinton replied: “If we can carry our form just through to Christmas and January and have a look at where we are then, then why can’t we get in the play-offs?”

The former Braintree Town midfielder continued: “The amount of chances we are having in games is frightening. It has been exceptional and very dangerous. If they keep taking those chances and start taking the chances they are missing, then who knows?

“Look what happened against Margate, Hornchurch and Hendon, to name a few. We will look at January and that is when we will start to assess things. I am always looking to strengthen the team and the boys here are a part of that – I am not looking to release anyone – they are all with it and they want success.”

The Towners’ recent run of form saw Quinton crowned the Premier Division manager of the month for October, after overseeing a sequence of five wins and two draws.

“I think one of the fans actually told me about it through a text,” admitted Quinton. “You are going to get some good times and some bad times, so you just have to enjoy it when it is there. I have enjoyed every minute of it so far; it is a great club and the fans have been great to me since (former manager) George Borg left and when he was here as well.

“Obviously it is not just me, it is my staff and the boys as well, so they thoroughly deserve it. I just appreciate everything they have done for me leading up to all of this,” he said.

Quinton believes taking enjoyment from playing has been key to Enfield’s recent run: “That’s the main thing in my philosophy and the way I play; if you are not enjoying football then there is no point and at the end of the day, some of them are getting paid and what else is better in life than playing some football – which we all love – and getting a pound note in your pocket?”

Midfielder Diego Lopez has this week signed from Hadleigh United, having previously turned out for AD Cerro Del Aguila in his native Spain.

“Diego is a very talented and very comfortable on the ball. He is Spanish and the way they play, nothing fazes him when he is in tight spaces,” explained Quinton.

“The guy came over and he approached me so I could have a look at him if I didn’t mind.

“I am always looking to strengthen my squad, but not necessarily in certain positions. It is down to the guys at the end of the day, they all know no-one has got a divine right to be wearing that Enfield shirt week-in-week-out, so they have to be performing, not for me, but for themselves.”

Enfield’s game against Witham Town on Saturday has been re-arranged for Tuesday, January 13 as Witham are in FA Trophy action.
