Enfield Ignations continued an unbeaten start to the season and currently sit joint top of the London Two North East after beating Braintree 24-22 on Saturday.

Having been on top for most of the first quarter, Ignations used their dominant forward play to build a 10-0 lead after scores from prop Steve Taylor and captain Luke Ellis.

Braintree fought back via Mickey Benfield, Tom Carslake, Joss Adams and Matt Pickles tries and, combined with a Jamie Masters conversion, the visitors took a 22-10 lead.

Ignations came to life again in the final quarter and surprised Braintree with a strong maul. The home side then took advantage of several penalties and, after gaining some momentum, scored two pushover tries were scored via Frank Antwi.

Scrum-half Jordan Wilson was also highly impressive; converting both tries, which in the end proved to be decisive.

Skills coach Steve Atkinson said: "I'm pleased and relieved that we managed to get out of jail in this game. There were huge positives for us in this game, but there are also a number of areas that still need working on. We need to more pro-active than reactive in certain situations."
