Enfield Town goalkeeper Noel Imber could be forced to retire after being ruled out of the start of the new season.

The Towners number one suffered a dislocated shoulder in the 1-1 draw with Wingate and Finchley in April and despite undergoing surgery and extensive rehabilitation, is still not fit to return.

As a result, Imber has been forced to put his playing career on hold as he continues to work on improving the mobility and strength in his shoulder, instead focusing on a coaching role at the club.

Enfield boss George Borg has offered Imber the opportunity to assume the role of goalkeeping coach, which the popular gloveman has accepted.

Reflecting on Imber's demise, Borg said: "Noel has been a real pillar of the team and made some game-changing saves that were vital to our fight against relegation this season.

"Noel's been a great leader at the back, keeping the defence on their toes and guiding some of the younger defenders coming through.Noel's injury is a huge loss for us, but who knows, maybe he'll be back to playing again once he gets his treatment sorted out."

Borg revealed last week he was close to agreeing a deal to bring a Conference keeper to the club on a six-month loan deal but the identity of the stopper is still yet to be revealed.

Meanwhile, backup goalkeeper Lee White has left the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium in search of first-team football, joining Ware.

"Lee has been great to work with at the club. He's a gentleman and it's been an honour," said Borg. "The door remains open, and if it fits both sides for him to return in the future, he'll be very welcome here.

"I'd like to thank Lee for all that he has done for the club. We all wish Lee every success at Ware."
