Saracens winger Chris Wyles makes his 100th appearance against Racing Metro in the Heineken Cup

Saracens winger Chris Wyles is set to make his 100th appearance in tomorrow's Heineken Cup match against Racing Metro and he believes a win in Brussels would create a "great platform" to reach the knockout stages.

Wyles joined the club in August 2008 on secondment from USA Rugby and after impressing the Sarries staff he was signed up on a permanent deal at the start of the 2009/10 campaign.

Three years and 99 appearances later, Wyles says he has a lot to thank Saracens for as he prepares to reach his century.

"You always try and develop and become better as a player and at Saracens they’ve allowed me to play a lot of rugby and shown a lot of confidence in me as a player. So I’ve got a lot to thank them for for that," he said.

"It’s obviously a huge milestone and one that I’m very proud of, it’s something I’ve had my eye on for a while so I’m massively excited about it.

"It’s been a long time coming, I’ve been at the club for five years now and it’ll be a really special moment for me and it’s an awesome occasion playing in Brussels in the Heineken Cup - it doesn’t get much bigger than that."

Saracens go into the match full of confidence after an opening 45-0 win against Edinburgh in which they scored five tries.

But despite the comprehensive victory, many have suggested the result was more down to Edinburgh’s defensive frailties rather than Saracens’ ability with the ball.

Wyles though, says negative press is something the players have grown used to.

"That sort of reaction doesn’t surprise me to be honest," he said.

"Over the last couple of weeks and months we feel we’ve been playing good rugby and we just haven’t been putting away the opportunities but a perception has been created and it’s pretty hard to break.

"Everyone knows that at times we play a structured game but that doesn’t mean we don’t create opportunities and we created those opportunities against Edinburgh and we put them away so that was encouraging for us and it sets up the game nicely against Metro."

Saracens will have to be as sharp as ever if they are to get anything out of Racing Metro, who despite enduring a mixed start to their league campaign, possess a star-studded squad.

"We’ve analysed them this week and they’ve got lots of great players - they’ve got something like 30 internationals - so we know what they can offer in terms of attack.

"They like to be play an unstructured game but we’ll stick to our game plan and we know we’ve got a good battle on our hands."

The bonus-point win against Edinburgh last weekend means that a victory on Saturday would leave Mark McCall’s side in a strong position to progress to the knockout-phases.

Wyles said: "We’ve got that bonus point win and to get another win would be huge.

"Going forward there are no easy games so it would be a great platform to set before we play Munster and a great platform to go forward in the competition."

Kick-off for the match is 4.40pm.
