A trio of Spurs defenders have been named in the England Under-21 squad as Stuart Pearce’s men aim to secure a European Championship play-off spot in the next two weeks.
Steven Caulker, Danny Rose and Adam Smith have been included in the squad that travels to Baku to face Azerbaijan on Thursday, September 6 before returning home to take on Norway in Chesterfield on Monday, September 10.
With England currently two points clear at the top of Group 8, back-to-back wins would secure Pearce’s team a play-off double header in October where an aggregate victory would see them through to next year’s finals in Israeal.
England Under-21 squad: Ben Amos (Hull City – on loan from Manchester United), Declan Rudd (Norwich City), Jason Steele (Middlesbrough); Ryan Bennett (Norwich City), Steven Caulker (Tottenham Hotspur), Nathaniel Clyne (Southampton), Craig Dawson (West Bromwich Albion), Martin Kelly (Liverpool), Ben Marshall (Leicester City), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Adam Smith (Tottenham Hotspur); Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Thomas Ince (Blackpool), Henri Lansbury (Nottingham Forest), Jason Lowe (Blackburn Rovers), Josh McEachran (Middlesbrough – on loan from Chelsea), Jack Rodwell (Manchester City), Jonjo Shelvey (Liverpool), Wilfred Zaha (Crystal Palace); Nathan Delfouneso (Aston Villa), Marvin Sordell (Bolton Wanderers), Connor Wickham (Sunderland), Martyn Waghorn (Leicester City).
