Enfield & Haringey AC men’s side remain in the promotion hunt after they came out on top by 26 points in their third British Athletics League match of the season.
The club now know that a first or second place finish in the final meet of the campaign will ensure a return to the Premier Division.
At Saturday’s match, held at Barnet Copthall, Luke Fagan claimed the man-of-the-match award with a win in the A string 200m in 20.90 and victory in the B string 100m in 10.41.
Chijindu Ujah came out on top in the A string 100 metres with 10.35. Fagan and Ujah then teamed up with Kyron Williams and Sean Safo Anton to win the the 4x100m relay in 41.7.
In the field events, Chris Kandu was victorious in the high jump with a leap of 2.08m, and Bonnie Buwembo and Paul Allsopp won the A and B string javelin with throws of 66.71m and 60.47m.
Ben Nagy (3.57) came home in the runners-up position in the 1500 before finishing fourth in the 3000m in 8.59.36.
Zac Saucede secured second in the 400m hurdles, stopping the clock on 54.00. He went on to place fourth in the 100m hurdles (15.25) and ran an important first leg in the 4x400 relay.
Team manager Malcolm Blackmore was delighted with the teams performances but was cautious about predicting promotion.
He said: “The First Division has proved to be a very competitive league and in order to gain promotion to the Premiership we must have our very best team out at Eton to the ensure the success the team’s ability deserve”.
Elsewhere, Enfield & Haringey’s young athletes took top spot at the Southern UK Young Athletes League finals and will now head to Manchester in September to defend their national title.
At Sunday’s event, held at Barnet Copthall, Enfield overcame tough opposition from the strongest clubs in the South of England to win by more than 70 points over main rivals Windsor Slough & Eton.
