Enfield downed by Bessborough

Enfield Seconds sit seventh in Middlesex County Cricket League Division Three, following a three-wicket defeat against Bessborough.

In a match reduced to 94 overs due to the weather, Enfield felt they had done enough with the bat and declared on 214 for five.

Skipper Chris Barrell scored a controlled 43 while Nimo Ahmed led the way for his side with an unbeaten 86.

Zia Ud Din and Duncan Visser also helped the score along, contributing 29 and 24 respectively.

The visitors’ reply got off to a brisk start, which was aided by some wayward bowling.

It prompted a change of tactic and the spin duo of Sam Martin and Michael Davies were introduced after just seven overs.

The pair bowled unchanged until the end as they looked to swing the momentum back in favour of Enfield They chipped away at the Bessborough innings with Martin taking three for 75 and Davies finishing with four for 85.

But the visitors clinched victory by three wickets with 11 balls remaining after opener and captain Phil Bush (64) and Tharsan Kanagaraj (67) had compiled a vital second-wicket partnership.

There was no action for Enfield’s first or third XI’s as their scheduled weekend matches were called off due to the heavy rain.

Enfield will be hoping to get back into action this Saturday as they take on Highgate at Lincoln Road.
