Enfield beaten by South Hampstead
12:30pm Thursday 28th June 2012 in Sport
A poor performance from the lower batting order cost Enfield as they suffered a seven-wicket defeat at South Hampstead in Middlesex County Cricket League Division Three.
Put into bat on a damp pitch, Enfield struggled to deal with the conditions. Jack Plumb (18) and Tom Marsh (52) kept the home attack at bay after the loss of early wicket.
However, after Marsh was dismissed, Hampstead bowler Amit Chakrawarti took control and eventually finished with figures of five for 30 from 13 overs. The visitors were bowled out for a 153.
An early breakthrough by Leo Smith and two wickets for Darran Greene gave Enfield a glimmer of hope as South Hampstead lost three wickets for 53 runs.
But the hosts regained their composure and reached their target without further loss.
There were better fortunes for Enfield Seconds who enjoyed a seven-wicket win over Wycombe House.
After dismissing the visitors for 167, Enfield eased to victory on the back of an opening partnership of 104 between Nigel Chapman (45) and Zia Ud Din (61).
Enfield Thirds recorded a 44-run win at Acton Fourths in 1987 League Division Two. Enfield were dismissed for just 94 but James Quinlan (six for 19) perfomed brilliantly with the ball to skittle Action for just 50.
