ENFIELD claimed victory in the squash championships for the third successive year at the recent London Youth Games.
The team of Philip Waller, John Lowry, Daniel Greene and George Worton claimed four successive 3-0 victories to take the title at Redbridge Sports Centre.
Enfield beat Kingston in their first match, with none of the players dropping a game, before claiming another comfortable 3-0 win over neighbours Barnet.
Another local rival, Haringey, proved tougher opposition in the semi-finals, but the Enfield team held its nerve to come through 3-0 and set up a showdown with Merton.
And they again triumped 3-0 to claim the title and a valuable 50 points for the borough.
Trainer and team manager Mark Worton was full of praise for the boys' team.
And he said: "I would like to congratulate them on their outstanding victory. They not only brought back gold medals but also won a fair play award for the conduct of their playing."
Enfield's girls' team also played well, and missed out on qualifying for the knockout stages by just one point, eventually finishing fifth.
Worton added: "Well done to the girls who got off to a bad start, finished strongly but did not qualify for the finals, missing out by one point.
"Well done Poppy Manze, Ffion May and Hazel Vickers. I know they will be back next year much stronger."
He added: "Thanks to Hazelwood Squash and Tennis Club for the use of their courts and Enfield Council sports development team for their continued support."
There was also success for the boys' hockey team, who qualified for the finals at Crystal Palace this Sunday, July 6.
The girls' and boys' table tennis teams finished sixth and ninth respectively, picking up 37 and 34 points, with the badminton team seventh after securing 36 points.
This summer the council's sports development team will be running a packed programme of sporting events, and for more details call 020 8379 3762.
