CRICKET: Five-star Richards guides Enfield to easy victory

A FIVE-wicket haul from Steve Richards helped Enfield to victory over Bessborough in 1st XI Division 3 of the Middlesex Cricket League.

Richards claimed 5-26 as the home side was bowled out for 92, still 98 runs short of Enfield's total of 190.

In 1st XI Division 1 there were defeats for both Southgate and Winchmore Hill.

The former lost by 50 runs at home to Finchley.

Batting first, Finchley declared of 286-8 after 59 overs with Steve Selwood top-scoring on 90.

Southgate batted valiantly in reply but were eventually bowled out for 236.

Winchmore Hill suffered a ten-wicket hammering at home to Hampstead.

Openers Oli Adamson (52) and Neil Hurst shared 65, but once Hurst was out for 12, wickets fell regularly and they were all out for 163.

Brandon Buckley (102no) and Imraan Mohammed (58no) guided Hampstead to victory off just 27.1 overs.

Enfield 2nd went down by 46 runs to Bessborough 2nd in 2nd XI Division 3.

The visitors batted first and were dismissed for 171, Mel Burles (5-29) the pick of Enfield's bowlers.

Despite an excellent knock of 56 by Chris Barrell, Enfield were all out for 125 in reply, E Jayasinghe claiming 7-25.

There was also defeat for Enfield's third team in 3rd XI Division 3 as they lost by 103 runs at home to Richmond 4th.

Theo Mavro (108no) helped Richmond declare on 229-4 after 45 overs.

And although opener Graham Sparrey (43) shone with the bat for Enfield, no-one else was able to get a start as they were bowled out for 126.
