TAE KWON-DO: Sulaimaan takes gold at English Open

EIGHT-year-old Sulaimaan Lim claimed a gold medal at the English Open Tae Kwon-Do Championships last weekend.

Sulaimaan won gold for sparring in the under-13 blue and red belt division, under 125cm category, at the K2 Leisure Centre, in Crawley.

The Enfield youngster trains at the United King-dom Tae Kwon-Do Dojang (UKTD), at North Finchley Lido Leisure Centre, and entered the championships as part of a team of three from his club.

He began Tae Kwon-Do when he was five, and is currently a blue belt.

In July, Sulaimaan won a silver medal in the same category at the London Open.

He said: "I enjoy doing Tae Kwon-Do as you can make good friends when you train, and I like being a senior student in the class.

"I like sparring because it's competitive and I want to know how to defend myself, and it's fun."

Coach David Bogen said: "There were about 80 people in that division, so Sulaimaan's perseverance and indominatable spirit really showed through."

UKTD runs classes across London and the Home Counties, with the sessions in North Finchley taking place on Monday and Friday evenings between 6-7pm.

Youngsters from the age of five upwards are welcome, and for more details call 07949 612706 or visit www. taekwondo-uktd.co.uk
