Enfield returned to winning ways in Middlesex League Division Two as they brushed aside Wycombe House by eight wickets at Lincoln Road on Saturday.

The win leaves the victors second in the table with three games remaining, four points behind leaders Stanmore who they face this weekend in what promises to be an enthralling clash.

However, they are set to be without leading wicket-taker Dan Amedee, who injured his ankle in a collision during the warm-up on Saturday and would later return from hospital in a protective boot.

After winning the toss, Kyal Bacchus-Brown opted to field first. Initially House’s opening batsman took the attack to the bowlers with some lusty blows, before Faisal Mir made the initial breakthrough.

With the score at 102-3 it appeared Wycombe were in a position to amass a reasonable score. However, an excellent spell of bowling by Les Edwards, well-supported by Rehan Hassan, tore through the rest of the batting line-up as they were hustled out for just 130.

Edwards (5-17) bowled beautifully in picking up his first five-wicket haul of the season, while Hassan (4-39) maintained strong pressure at the other end.

Edwards and Hassan then continued their double act in Enfield’s response.

Edwards made a quick-fire 31, and, after the dogged Jack Plumb (23) was well caught, Hassan (54 not out) looked to be coming back to his prolific early-season form with as he, in partnership with Ayush Sahota, ensured Enfield passed their victory target in just 20 overs.
