ENFIELD Town survived going down to 10 men to see off AFC Sudbury 1-0 at the QES in the Ryman Premier League.

The hosts had a good deal of fluidity in their early play with Nathan Livings gaining the first shot of the game but fired narrowly over the bar.

Town took the lead within 14 minutes when a Billy Crook free-kick eluded a cluster of players with Mark Kirby on hand to turn it back into the box for Tyler Campbell to fire a low finish past the diving Marcus Graham.

The first half then became increasingly one-way traffic when a great cross by Jon Muleba had Harry Ottaway sliding in at the back post but he couldn't quite convert the ball into the net.

Graham had to make a good save from Ricky Gabriel as Town kept up the pressure.

But the complexion of the game changed completely when Livings received a straight red card for a dangerous challenge on Jack Wilkinson on 38 minutes.

With an extra man at their advantage, Suds' Sam Bantick curled a fine effort against the outside of the woodwork for their best effort of the half just before the break.

In the second half, with Town looking to make the game safe, Campbell scuffed a shot wide before Nathan McDonald got down well to push a free-kick from Dylan Williams round the post.

But Enfield continued with their chances when Graham parried a Mickey Parcell effort and Kirby headed a Crook corner just wide.

Ottaway could have scored a second but he fired across the goal from an acute angle in the 73rd minute.

Sudbury continued to use the full width of the pitch with the hosts switching to a more defensive formation to gain the three points.

The visitors wanted to make the extra man count and Craig Parker, Bantick, and James Baker failing to capitalise on their chances.

And the Towners even had some chances of their own through Shulton and Parcell before McDonald made an important stop to keep out a Luke Callender header.

That was as good as it got for Sudbury and despite a huge chunk of added time, Town held on for a vital win to keep in touch with the play-off spots.

Enfield currently sits sixth in the table, two points behind fifth-placed Leiston and will face Bognor Regis Town on Saturday kicking off at 3 pm.
