Enfield Borough lost 2-1 to Kensington Dragons after extra time in the Middlesex Intermediate Cup at the weekend.

The score was 1-1 at full time with Olakunle Akinwande scoring the only goal for Borough but the club will be interested to find out why the game went to extra time.

Due to the rules in the cup it states there should be no extra time and it means the game will most likely have to be replayed.

This result came on the back of a momentous occasion for Borough after they defeated Cockfosters 4-2 on penalties in the Spartan South Midlands League Challenge Trophy second round on Tuesday.

Enfield made a good start to the game as Ola Akinwande gained the first real chance of the half. He broke the offside trap and headed the ball past the on rushing keeper but his effort was cleared off the line.

Midway through the hosts had a good a chance when they were awarded a free-kick which resulted in the ball being blasted over the bar.

In the second there was good opportunities from both sides before the deadlock was broken with the visitors taking the lead.

A perfectly delivered corner by Alfie Hatch was met by the on form Solomon Nwaboukei but ten minutes later his joy was turned to misery when he was sent off for receiving a second yellow.

With time running out the hosts had to push forward and got their just rewards when Borough failed to clear a corner resulting in Cockfosters finding the equaliser.

It was Romoney Chichlow-Noble who scored the winning pen to ensure his side progressed to the third round with Fosters missing two in a row.

Manager Marvin Walker said: “I thought my players did really well against a strong Cockfosters side.

“We created some good chances even when we had 10 men and we should have really won the game within 90 minutes.”
