Enfield Town’s cup run in the FA Trophy came to a bitter end at the weekend after Kings Langley grabbed a last minute goal.

Debutant Jerry Amoo was the unlikely winning scorer but pounced on a mistake from Town’s Keir Dickson.

Towners’ boss Brad Quinton admitted his side should have done better to ensure they progressed on to the next round.

He added: “It was very disappointing to lose in a cup game especially with 10 minutes to go you think it could go to replay.

“But we just couldn’t see the game out. We took the morning on Sunday to let them know about it and they agreed that they should have done more to win.

“It was an individual mistake and it came from us being overzealous to try and find the winning goal.”

Town enjoyed the majority of the first half possession as Mark Kirby header from a Billy Crook corner but was gathered safely by home keeper Danny Boness.

Harry Ottaway headed off-target from Mickey Parcell’s cross and shortly afterwards Scott Shulton miscued an Ottaway knock-down.

Town’s best chance of the half came in the 28th minute when a Bobby Devyne shot was deflected goal wards and with Boness backpedalling, Ottaway just couldn’t turn the ball into the net from close range.

Nathan McDonald made one of many crucial saves just before the end of the first as he denied Steve Ward but Kings were shortly reduced to 10 men after Jack Pattinson received two yellow cards.

The second period began with Town pushing for the breakthrough they tried to make use of their one man advantage.

But it was McDonald who had to make the further saves from Connor Toomey and David Hutton.

Both sides proceeded to hit the crossbar before Town sub Tyler Campbell fired well over the bar and Toomey once again tested McDonald but he easily collected.

Chances then came few and far between and Town’s fans became frustrated by the lack of on-target efforts.

At the death Town were awarded a free-kick in a promising position near the edge of the home box on the right.

Dickson shaped to cross the ball in but decided to play the ball short and square for Amoo to intercept and apply the finishing touches past McDonald.

Town return to league action on Saturday as they take on Havant and Waterlooville away from home kicking off at 3pm.

“There was a bit of punishment for the lads but we are away on Saturday so there will be a good training session on Tuesday,” Quinton added.

“We need to do everything we can to keep the momentum going for the league play-off spots. The play off is the main focus.

“Not getting an FA Cup run and going out of the FA trophy has been disappointing but we have to make sure we are calm and collected to get into the right position in the table.

“We must play to our known ability and for me it has always been about the play offs.”
