Enfield Town players Claudiu Vilcu and Corey Whitely have left the club with less than a week until the start of the season.

Defender Vilcu has joined Bishop’s Stortford while striker Corey Whitely has moved to Dagenham & Redbridge.

Vilcu made 70 appearances for the Towners scoring nine goals. He moved over from his homeland in Romania and played for a number of clubs including Wealdstone and Cambridge City before making his Enfield debut in January 2015.

Whitely scored 57 goals in 144 appearances for Bradley Quinton’s side. He started off in the club’s youth team before moving to Cheshunt. The striker then returned to Town and his form has secured a move to the Daggers.

The Towners start their Ryman Premier Division campaign this Saturday with a home game against Canvey Island.

Quinton’s side finished sixth last season and will be hoping to challenge for a play-off spot during the next campaign.

Enfield’s pre-season finished with a 2-1 victory at Haringey Borough on Saturday afternoon.

It was understandably a low-key affair with the warm conditions affecting the tempo of the game.

But Quinton’s side opened the scoring five minutes before the break when a counter-attack from Nikki Ahamed set up Micky Parcell for a neat finish.

The Towners doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time when the hosts were penalised for a handball in the penalty area. Billy Crook sent goalkeeper Harry Palmer the wrong way to give Enfield a cushion for the second half.

Haringey Boro managed to score a late consolation when Ishmail Kamara beat the offside trap but Enfield saw out the game.

It completed a successful pre-season campaign after finishing with five wins from seven games.

The Towners follow their opener with a trip to Dulwich Hamlet on Tuesday.
