WINCHMORE Hill & Enfield Hockey Club are holding Back to Hockey sessions over the summer for six weeks.

The north London club’s event will have coached sessions for men and women who are looking for a fun, social way to get fit and stay in shape.

The sessions, which have proven to be successful in previous years with many people taking up the sport, will be held at Aylward Academy, Windmill Road, from Saturday, July 2 to Saturday, August 6 from 10:30am to midday.

England hockey’s participation manager and hockey coach Beverly Blackburn said: “It’s an exciting time to come back to hockey as so many women have been inspired by the ‘This Girl Can’ campaign and want to give the sport a try.

“We welcome all abilities and are keen to show that hockey has come a long way from the days of muddy pitches and waiting around for a touch of the ball.

“The Back to Hockey sessions are also aimed at those who played during their school days but may have moved away from the game because it became too time consuming, competitive and physically demanding.

“Now back for another successful year, the flexible format allows women to get involved in the sport on a local basis and can easily fit around busy schedules.”

The club, who are teaming up with England Hockey and the This Girl Can campaign, are aiming to join more than 160 hockey clubs across the UK in the Back to Hockey 2016 programme.

There will be hockey sticks available on the day and the club have suggested that you come along in clothes suitable for sport and trainers or astroturf shoes if you have any.

After the session is complete there will be refreshments available at the clubhouse.
