Mauricio Pochettino admitted he does not care about Arsenal as the race to finish second in the table goes to the final day.

Spurs could have all but secured second place with a victory over Southampton but fell short in their final game at home with a 2-1 defeat.

Speaking after the game, Pochettino said: Yes it was a disappointing result.

“We need to analyse our last few games on how to improve our squad and areas of the team.”

Tottenham took the lead through Heung-Min Son but a brace from Steven Davis gave Southampton all three points.

Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Man City means that Pochettino’s side are two points clear with one game to play.

But the Spurs boss admitted he doesn’t care about Tottenham’s bitter North London rivals.

He said: “I don’t care about arsenal, I want to win the league and be on the top.

“I want to be above them, this is normal, why clarify that, our supporters feel the same.”

Spurs have now thrown away points from winning positions in each of their last three matches.

They will travel to Newcastle on the final match knowing that one victory will secure their highest finish in Premier League history.

Looking back at today’s defeat, Pochettino said: “Sometimes you deserve and not get anything, we play in the way we want to play, we were better than Southampton but we conceded two soft goals in two shots on target.

“If we want to fight to win the league next year we need to improve.”
