Enfield Town boosted their Ryman Premier Division play-off hopes after a 2-1 win at struggling Brentwood Town yesterday.

The Towners are seventh in the table and four points off the top-five as they attempt to challenge for promotion this season.

Imedd Kartita was handed his first start for the club after the attacking midfielder joined the club at the end of last week.

The former Charlton and West Ham youth team player has had spells in America on a scholarship and in the Essex Senior League for Sporting Bengal.

Bradley Quinton’s side made a bright start to the clash and almost took an early lead through Mark Kirby’s volley which was deflected over the bar.

Corey Whitely also went close for the visitors but his fierce strike was pushed away by goalkeeper Ollie Bowles.

Enfield deservedly opened the scoring in the 37th minute of the game. Whitely’s shot was parried by Bowles but Harry Ottaway reacted quickest to tuck home the rebound for the crucial breakthrough.

Kartita almost got off the mark for his new team but he poked the ball wide of the target at the end of the first half.

But Brentwood levelled the contest six minutes after the restart. Andrew Freeman broke into the Enfield penalty area and cut the ball back for Marcus Milner to tap in from close range.

Quinton’s side regained the lead midway through the second half with a stunning effort. Whitely’s shot was saved by Bowles but Harold Joseph struck a superb shot past the keeper for the winner.

It ensured the Towners picked up four points from the Easter weekend after a 2-2 draw at home to play-off rivals Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday.

The visitors played more than 60 minutes with ten men after Matt Drage was sent off for a second booking.

The red card came just after Dulwich Hamlet took the lead through Jack Dixon.

Enfield upped their game in the second half and Kirby, who rejoined the club last week, marked his return with the equaliser.

But Dulwich Hamlet regained the lead shortly afterwards when Dipo Akinyemi headed in a cross.

The Towners piled the pressure on in search of an equaliser and the side were rewarded with a second goal six minutes from time.

Whitely managed to round the goalkeeper and score from a tight angle for a potentially vital point against their promotion rivals.

Enfield host Bognor Regis Town on Thursday before entertaining Grays Athletic on Saturday.
