Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane appears almost certain to start for England in their friendly against Spain on Friday night.

Manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed skipper Wayne Rooney will start on the bench in Alicante whilst Jamie Vardy, the Premier League’s top scorer with 11 goals already for Leicester City, has a knock which looks set to rule him out.

With only three strikers named in Hodgson’s squad to face Spain and France (Tuesday, November 17), Kane looks certain to be handed his fourth start for his country.

Kane, who scored on his Three Lions debut against Lithuania in March, has three goals in just six senior outings to date.

Hodgson plans to use as many members of his 22-man squad in these two games as England prepare for next summer’s European Championships in France.

Speaking on Thursday, he said: "It would be good if we can spare as many players as possible having to play the two games at this stage of the season.

"At the front we've got Wayne Rooney and Jamie Vardy, we've got Harry Kane and Ross Barkley there that interest me.

“At the back, at centre-back for example, we have interesting combinations, so we are likely to be making changes in that respect.”

Club-mate Eric Dier could make his debut after earning a first call-up to the senior side, whilst Dele Alli and Kyle Walker have also been called up from Spurs.
