Uncapped Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier hopes to replicate his club form if he makes his senior England debut during the international break.

The former Sporting Lisbon defender has starred in an unfamiliar holding midfield role for Spurs this season, making 11 Premier League appearances.

He has ten caps for England's Under-21s to his name but has never been included in the senior squad.

But so impressive has his form been this season, the 21-year-old has been rewarded with a first call up to Roy Hodgson’s senior England side for two high-profile friendlies in the next week.

The Three Lions face Spain on Friday evening in Alicante before hosting Hugo Lloris’ France at Wembley next Tuesday.

Speaking to the club’s website, Dier said: "I’m really looking forward to it and it’s been a great week for me. Getting selected was great, I was very happy and very proud.

"Hopefully I can now take my Tottenham form into the next week.

"It’s huge for me – I don’t know if I’ll get the chance to make my debut but hopefully I’ll get that chance, take it and impress.

"There are a lot of good players in England and there are a lot of players who play in that central midfield position so it will be tough but I’m really looking forward to it and I’ll do as much as I can.”
