Pupils from St John’s Prep and Senior School were crowned Under-11s English Schools Football Association Enfield Borough football tournament winners.
Their young footballers produced seven impressive performances to win the national title for the first time in the school’s history.
The Under-11s progressed through the group stage with four wins and a draw, conceding just one goal along the way and scoring seven.
In the semi-finals, St John’s looked down and out after trailing 2-0 to Raglan but goals from Nwankwo Kanu’s son Sean and Takumi Satoh made it 2-2 to force a penalty shootout.
The penalties went to sudden death with St John’s goalkeeper Philip Pawlik proving to be the hero after his save sent them into the final.
Full of confidence from the win, the team performed superbly in the final to record a 2-0 victory over Suffolks.
Watford keeper Heurelho Gomes’ son Flavio scored along with Sean Kanu.
