Former Enfield Judo Club judoka Philip Awiti-Alcaraz took home an impressive silver medal at the Glasgow European Judo Open.
Awiti-Alcaraz, who trains at the British Judo Centre of Excellence in Walsall, was a crowd favourite on the day at the recently held competition.
He produced three wins by ippon over Giuliano Loporchio (Italy), Sergio Garcia (Mexico) and Vincenzo D’Arco (Italy) on his way to a spot in the final where he faced the higher ranked Michael Korrel (Netherlands) in the -100kg final.
In a physical encounter the British judoka was behind by shido and in trying to get back into the contest he was thrown for ippon by the Dutch judoka.
The Enfield judoka has struggled with injuries this year although he was in form in Scotland.
His second European Open medal of the year has moved him to 69th place in the Olympic Games qualification.
