Mauricio Pochettino believes his side should have taken all three points in Jurgen Klopp’s first match for Liverpool.

The lilywhites created a host of chances but could not find a way past Simon Mignolet who was in “strong” form according to Klopp.

Both Harry Kane and Clinton N’Jie tested the Belgian stopper but in the end the result ended goalless.

Pochettino said: “We only conceded one clear chance when we had ten men on the pitch and we had four good chances in the first half.

“I am very pleased with the players, we are still young and this was a good game for them.”

Liverpool came with a pressing intense tempo which stunned Pochettino’s men early on.

Divock Origi's headed hit the underside of the bar in the opening ten minutes.

The Spurs boss said: “This does not surprise us, it was the same when I arrived at Southampton, players are over exciting and want to impress the manager – if we analyse the game, our chances were clear.”

Pochettino also bemoaned his front men saying his side needed to be more clinical in the game.

Spurs have now gone eight games unbeaten in the league, the longest run of any side.

“We need to be clinical in front of the goal, but after 9 games and only 1 defeat against united, we are solid and difficult to beat.” Pochettino added.

Nacer Chadli  also picked up an injury and the Spurs boss said he will need to be “assessed over 24 hours” on a suspected ankle ligament damage.

Spurs travel to Belgium to face Anderlecht on Thursday before facing an away trip to Bournemouth next Sunday.
