Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has earned his first senior England call-up less than a month after making his debut for the Under-21s.

He is joined for the Three Lions’ final two European Championship qualifiers, at home to Estonia (Friday, October 9) and in Lithuania (Monday, October 12), by Spurs teammate Harry Kane.

Alli only linked up with Spurs for pre-season following his £5 million switch to White Hart Lane from MK Dons in January, having spent the second half of last season back at stadiummk on loan.

But the has impressed after being given a starting berth in Tottenham’s midfield by Mauricio Pochettino and his reward is a place in Roy Hodgson’s 24-man squad for back-to-back Euro 2016 qualifiers.

England have already secured their place in France next summer and Alli could therefore conceivably add to his first Under-21 cap – won against Norway at the beginning of last month.

Discussing his decision to hand the 19-year-old his first senior call-up, Hodgson said: "Dele Alli is, I suppose, the more off-beat one in the sense that he is so young and only just broken into the Tottenham team.

"But we have been very impressed with what we have seen of him.

"We are a year away from France so we're thinking it is a good opportunity to ask him to come with us on this occasion, when so many midfield players are actually missing through injury, and get to know him a bit better.

"Who knows, going forward, where he will end up? He is a very exciting talent."
