Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino said his side “need to keep their feet on the grass” after beaten title favourite Manchester City.

The lilywhites thrashed early leaders 4-1 with goals from Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld, Harry Kane and Erik Lamela.

Despite the euphoria surrounding the result the Spurs boss said his team need to “stay calm”.

The Argentine added: “We need to keep our feet on the grass after a big win, this is our job now.
“I think it was a great victory for us, it was a great result, very happy. Very pleased for our supporters, after Wednesday they deserved that result.

“First half was difficult for us to find the way to play against them – the second half was easier, we fixed some problems at half time.”

Spurs have endured a torrid run against the Citizens losing eight of the last nine but managed to turn the tables on City with free flowing football that could make them top four contenders.

Pochettino added: “We competed well, I said that in the press conference that we have to do that.

"We are a young squad and it is important to compete with Man City.

Three of the five goals scored at White Hart Lane were offside with Kyle Walker offside in the build up to the equaliser and Kane for his first goal of season.

However, the Spurs boss admitted he didn’t care stating that “this is football” and recalled a match at Manchester City when he was Southampton boss when two goals were offside in a 4-1 defeat.

Mr Pochettino revealed he was relieved that Kane had managed to bag his first of the campaign and also praised Erik Lamela for his tireless display.

“We are happy with him [Lamela] - he was fantastic today, but the whole team made the result, we have a big potential.”

Spurs now have two tricky trips to Monaco in the Europa League followed by Swansea away next Sunday.
