Tottenham Hotspur defender Vlad Chiriches has brought a frustrating two-year stay at White Hart Lane to an end by joining Serie A side Napoli.

The 25-year-old centre-back joined Spurs from Steaua Bucuresti in August 2013 for €9.5 million but never displayed the kind of form which persuaded Daniel Levy to bring him to the Lane with part of the fee received for Gareth Bale.

Chiriches had been linked with a move away from north London throughout the transfer window after making just eight Premier League starts last season.

Italian side Fiorentina had been understood to be close on a season-long loan deal with the option to buy next summer, but Napoli moved to secure the Romanian's services on a permanent basis.

Form and fitness restricted the 32-cap Romanian international to just 24 Premier League starts in two seasons in England. In total Chiriches made 43 appearances for Spurs in all competitions and scored two goals.
