Middlesex wicket-keeper John Simpson took time out of his busy schedule to open the renovated nets at Southgate Adelaide Cricket Club.

Simpson survived some ferocious bowling from the clubs colts to christen the nets on Wednesday before presenting Jack Petchey awards for outstanding achievement to colts Alex Wilkinson, Gavin Gunawardena and Paul Ellwood for his work with the youngsters at the club.

Club stalwart Gareth Morgan was rewarded for his efforts on the net renovation and contributions over many years, accepting vice presidency at the club.

The County glovesman stayed on to sign autographs and pass on advice to Adelaide’s young talents.

Simpson tweeted: “Had the privilege of opening the new @SAdelaideCC nets this evening, Fantastic club with great people.”
