Winchmore Hill & Enfield Hockey Club have celebrated one of their best seasons with two sides winning league titles.

The Seconds finished first in the East League South West fifth division scoring 114 goals which was more than any other team across the south west region in this competition. The team also finished with a goal difference of plus 83 which was significantly better than any side.

Captain Jake Sumner said: "I’ve been at the club for more than 25 years and this was some of the best hockey I’ve seen played. It was fast paced, exciting hockey, but above all we connected as a team to achieve some excellent results.

"There were some exceptional performances across the team from our top scorer Andy Yates to goalkeeper Nick Smith, who won club player of the season. We’re looking forward to playing in 4SW next season and giving that a real go."

The men's fourths team also won promotion after clinching the ninth division championship. The team, captained by Neil Clements, won 21 out of 24 games and lost just twice all season. The side also won men’s team of the season at the club.

Winchmore Hill & Enfield's firsts and thirds also secured their status in Division Three and Division Six respectively.

From next season, the club will play at the Astroturf at Aylward Academy in Windmill Road while the club house will remain at the Paulin Ground in Ford’s Grove.

The club are looking to add to their squad roster next season. As part of this, the club is running ‘Back to Hockey’ sessions, coached sessions for men and women regardless of their experience in the sport.

The sessions for both men and women will run from 2-4pm every Saturday until July 4. For more information on joining the club see www.whehockey.com or email enquiries@whehockey.com.
