Tottenham Hotspur hope to bring French winger Florian Thauvin to north London this summer, according to the Daily Mirror.

The club’s pursuit of the player follows Marseille snubbing an enquiry for the 22-year-old in January.

But Spurs are optimistic they can push through a move for the player, who would provide support for top-scorer Harry Kane.

And scouts were reportedly in France on Friday to see Thauvin’s Marseille side lose 5-3 at home to Lorient.

Thauvin, who is valued at around £10 million, is also the subject of reported interest from Chelsea and Spanish side Valencia, with Marseille are keen to sell players in a bid to raise funds.

The club has well-documented financial problems and a number of their players have been linked with moves away, including Newcastle United target Andrew Ayew.

Thauvin, who can also play in behind the striker, has been likened to Bayern Munich attacker Franck Ribéry.

He was also a member of the French team who won the Under-20 World Cup in Turkey in 2013 and featured in France Under-21s’ victory over England in November
