Enfield Water Polo Club have booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Referees Cup with a comprehensive 25-14 win over Chelmsford on Wednesday.

Chelmsford (+4), who play in the Premier Division, were lumbered with a 12-goal handicap meaning they were always facing an uphill struggle against their hosts.

Great Britain Junior Dan Paddon did his best to send the Essex-based outfit through, scoring five goals himself, but Enfield (+16) advanced despite losing 10-9 on the night.

The visitors stormed into a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, demonstrating exactly why they play two levels higher than Enfield.

However, the Enfield fightback got off the ground when Charlie Briers pulled one back for the hosts just before the end of the first quarter.

Alex and Richard Waller were both on target following the restart whilst Rob Lucas also got in on the act to reduce the arrears to 5-4 at half-time.

Enfield were indebted to goalkeeper Andy Boorman in the third period as he pulled off a string of excellent stops to repel the chances Chelmsford threw at him.

Although Lucas was on target was on target for Enfield, two further goals for Chelmsford ensured they took a 7-5 lead into the final quarter.

And the home side then took control in the fourth with both Waller brothers and elder brother Chris all hitting the back of the net from distance.

Enfield did briefly lead 9-8 after Briers crashed home his second and although Chelmsford grabbed two more goals of their own it was not enough to deny Enfield progress into the last eight.
