Enfield sprinter Bianca Williams insists there is plenty more to come from her this year after opening up her indoor season with 60m gold at the BUCS Nationals in Sheffield.

Williams, winner of double Commonwealth bronze in the 200m and 4x100m relay last summer, showed little sign of rustiness as she powered to gold at the EIS track on Friday.

The 21-year-old Enfield and Haringey Athletic Club ace equalled her personal best in the semi-finals before going even faster in the final, clocking a time of 7.34 seconds en route to the gold medal.

Knee injuries had meant a delayed start to the season for Williams, but having got 2015 up and running with a bang – including another impressive time of 7.39 seconds in the heats of the Birmingham Indoor Grand Prix the following day – she is confident of transferring her form to the outdoor season.

“This is my first indoor competition of the season so it’s good to blow the cobwebs away. I did want to run quick and I did want to run a PB so I’m happy,” said Williams.

“My start was a bit slow. That’s always the slowest part of my race but once I saw the girl next to me, I knew I had to keep going and going and that’s what I’ve done.

“I felt in very good form coming into it. I did my uni proud and my coach proud.

“I had a few knee injuries in the winter so it kind of set me back. We just wanted to see what I could do and see what I’m capable of. I feel in good shape and I feel I can go faster.

“For outdoors I just want to keep running quick, keep getting those personal best times. My aim is to run well and be healthy and then I can concentrate on Worlds in the middle of the season.”

Last year was arguably Williams’ best to date, with not only her Commonwealth success but also a fourth-place finish in the 200m final at the European Championships in Zurich.

This summer see the World Championships take place in Beijing and while there is plenty of action to come before then, Williams admits she is glad to be back firing on all cylinders once again.

“To get back into winter training was hard, my mind wasn’t there. I’d just come back from holiday in Dubai and Bali so my mind was still in Dubai so it was so hard to focus into winter,” she added.

“And I had a knee injury so it kind of set me back again so I was scared to think about the outdoors and what I could do.

“For outdoors I just want to keep running quick, keep getting those personal best times. My aim is to run well and be healthy and then I can concentrate on Worlds in the middle of the season.”
