Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino believes his side needed to ‘kill the game’ as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City after being 1-0 up.

The home side conceded late goals to Leonardo Ulloa in the 83rd minute and then Jeffrey Schlupp in the 91st minute to go out of the FA Cup in the fourth round.

Speaking after the match, the Spurs boss could not hide his frustration at letting in two late goals.

He said: “[We are] very disappointed from the result and the game, when you analyse it I think we deserved more. We did not kill the game off and the game was kept alive for Leicester.

“In the last ten minutes we made some mistakes and are out of the FA Cup and for that I am very disappointed.”

Things were looking rosy in the first half as Roberto Soldado was fouled in the box and Andros Townsend converted the spot kick.

The second half there was a different Spurs; a team that lacked energy and focus and that was their downfall for both the goals.

Firstly not clearing, or attempting to clear, a corner which fell to Schlupp who low drilled effort fell into the part of Ulloa to drive into the bottom corner.

A catalogue of errors then resulted in the winner as Schlupp got on the end of Marc Albrighton’s cross and squirmed beyond Michel Vorm who should’ve kept out the shot.

Speaking about the mistake, Pochettino said: “This is football and sometimes to make a mistake but this is the way it goes. No Michel has experience and we need to keep working and fix the mistakes.”

Ahead of Spurs’ Capital One Cup semi-final second leg against Sheffield United, the Spurs boss said: “It is important to keep our motivation and confidence because we need to play Wednesday because we are expecting a really tough game. 1-0 at 83 minutes I am upset by this.”
