Enfield Ignatians head coach Emile Hertz described his side's 34-0 defeat at Campion on Saturday as the biggest disappointment of his 15-year coaching career.

Campion ran in six unanswered tries against the Ignatians, romping to victory in the London Two North East.

Frustratingly, Ignatians are just one of two sides to have beaten second-placed Campion this season and shaded the home tie 17-15 at Donkey Lane in October.

However, the return fixture in Romford degenerated into a increasingly one-sided affair as Campion ran in six tries - three in each half - to keep the pressure on the league-leaders Chelmsford.

Ignatians began brightly. They defended stoutly in the opening quarter when playing up the slope and with Campion conceding a succession of penalties, the visitors managed to get into the red zone on a couple of occasions, only to have their lineout sacked on their own throw.

Having been let off the hook, Campion finally broke the ice on the 27th minute via Tim Dowling, although there was an element of luck to the score as the ball took a deflection off an Ignatians' player. However, luck never featured in the Daniel Bolton and Oliver Waugh tries.

Trailing 17-0 at the break, Ignatians were hit hard on the 45th minute when Campion secured the bonus point after being stretched to breaking point by Andy Lewis. Further scores from Bolton, allied to a penalty try awarded at the death, made it a miserable day for the visitors.

Emile Hertz commented: "Even we played down the slope in the second-half we never really got going. We were too off the pace in a number of key areas and there's more to this side than we showed here."

Ignatians resume league action on Saturday when they entertain Saffron Walden.

The Fourths saw their home fixture switched to Watford, whose second team shaded a close contest 17-12 in Herts-Middlesex Merit Table Five.

Michael Davies and Dave Korthals scored for Ignatians with Chris Byrne landing a second-half conversion, as the blue and golds stormed back after trailing 10-0 at half-time.

Ignatians Under-18s shaded a close encounter with their Harlow counterparts, prevailing 10-5. In a game played in testing conditions, a try from Donny Noble ensured that it all square at the break, until debutant prop Dan Formoso supplied the winning score in the second-half.
