Enfield Town boss Bradley Quinton joked he would have to buy Tyler Campbell another new pair of boots after the striker attributed his goal and two assists to his new footwear on Saturday.

Campbell, who had not struck since netting the only goal in the Towners’ 1-0 win over VCD Athletic in August, scored one and set up two as Enfield thrashed Harrow Borough 5-0 to move up to eighth in the Isthmian Premier Division.

The resounding win over Dave Anderson’s side means Enfield are now just seven points shy of the play-offs with a game in hand on fifth-placed Leiston.

Enfield were 2-0 up inside the opening ten minutes at the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium, with Nathan Livings opening the scoring before Campbell set up man-of-the-match Jon Constant to net.

Two goals in as many second-half minutes killed the contest off for good, with Campbell grabbing the first with a clever finish and going on to again provide the assist for Constant to notch his second.

Phil Kane rounded off a comprehensive victory shortly after the hour with his second of the season.

Reflecting on the performance of Campbell, Quinton said: “Tyler Campbell has been working hard and wanted to get back in the team. He is a great person to have around the club. I have been working with him and Michael Kalu doing extra shooting practice and it appears to be paying off.

“He said he was wearing new boots and that was why he scored. I said to him if that was the case I would have to buy him another new pair next week,” joked the manager.

“Jon Constant and Corey Whitely have both been very complimentary about working with him (Campbell) and I have two or three other superb forwards too, so everyone knows they have to work hard to keep their place.”

And the former Braintree Town midfielder was equally quick to praise the impact of Constant, who has now scored four goals in his first seven appearances for the Towners.

He said: “Jon Constant’s movement and ability to draw other players towards him and making little gaps is excellent.

“His work rate and movement was very good and that is why I brought him to the club.”

The win is Enfield’s biggest margin of victory in the league this season and Quinton has been adamant his side would secure a large win sooner rather than later.

“Like I have said for several weeks now, I just felt we could beat someone by three, four for five and now we have,” stated Quinton. “If I am being negative, there were two or three chances that we missed which were gilt-edged to be honest.

“All the training sessions since I have been here have been great. It has been enjoyable in training and the guys are now seeing the rewards each week – everyone has been very sharp. How they train is how I expect them to play and we are very confident in our own ability.”

Asked what the difference had been in comparison to recent weeks, he replied: “We took our chances for one thing.

“We took two early chances but then we took our foot off the pedal a little bit and they came back into it – without threatening – before we got another early goal again after the break.

“We worked really hard and pressed really high up the pitch and worked together, which was key.”

Enfield hosted Peacehaven & Telescombe at the QEII last night (Tuesday) knowing a win for them and defeat for Met Police and Hornchurch would see the Towners move up two places to sixth. VCD Athletic host Town on Saturday.
