Enfield Ignatians lost their friendly 35-31 at Old Merchant Taylors’ as they prepare for their London Two North East opener at South Woodham Ferrers this Saturday.

In a game played over four quarters, both sides scored five tries apiece. However, it was OMTs’ ability to add all their conversions, compared to the visitors’ three, which was the difference.

Jordan Wilson, Frank Antwi, Rob Wyer, Tom Jordan and Richard Laurence scored for Ignatians with Wilson adding three conversions.

Skills coach Steve Atkinson said: “The opening first quarter, when we leaked three tries, two of which were kick throughs, was poor. Otherwise we tied the second period and were on top in the third and fourth quarters.”

Enfield Ignatians Seconds were beaten 29-0 by Old Merchant Taylors’ Seconds.

The Fourths played a match against the Expendables, a team consisting of former St Ignatius College pupils that toured Dublin 20 years ago. Ignatians were beaten 29-5 in the match which raised approximately £600 for the Enfield Mental Users Group.
