New Enfield Town manager Bradley Quinton believes his side paid too much respect to Maidstone United in their 4-0 home defeat.

Quinton won his first two matches in charge but suffered his first defeat since taking over the role from George Borg on Saturday and was disappointed at the way the team started the game.

He said: “The only thing I’m not happy about is the way we didn’t battled from the start. I think we gave them far too much respect and I don’t think you should be doing that to any team in the division.

“I asked the players afterwards if they felt they had won their individual battles and not one of them said they did. They’re an honest bunch of lads and I’m not too worried about it because we’ll go again and they will learn from it.

“We have to set the tone from minute one but on the whole I’m happy with how the team are playing and things will get better over time.”

The Ryman Premier Division leaders opened the scoring when Alex Flischer headed home. Maidstone made it 2-0 in the second half when Matt Bodkin fired past Nathan McDonald before James Rogers slid in the third goal.

The Towners were reduced to ten men when Nathan Livings was sent off for a challenge in the centre circle before Steve Watt headed in the final goal for the visitors.

Quinton said: “I thought the sending off was a fair challenge and I think we will probably appeal the red card. When we went down to ten men we could have folded but we created a few chances and gave it a good go.”

Enfield face a trip to Met Police tonight and their next match is at home to Eastern Counties Premier side Felixstowe & Walton United in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup this Saturday.

Player-manager Quinton, who hopes to confirm his number two in the next fortnight, said: “It’s the best cup in the world in my eyes. It would be great to have a good run so it’s down to the boys to give it all they can. It all comes down to the luck of the draw, if you get through, but it’s definitely a target of mine to go as far as we can in the competition.”

In other news, the Towners have extended their sponsorship agreement with Sports Interactive, the company behind Football Manager. Under the new agreement, both home and away shirts will feature the Football Manager logo throughout the 2014/15 season.

Enfield Town chairman Paul Reed said: “It’s fantastic news that Football Manager have agreed to extend their sponsorship for the forthcoming season. We’ve been thrilled with how the relationship has developed over the past year and we look forward to building on this over what plans to be an incredibly exciting season for the club.

“It’s an absolute privilege for the club to be associated with such a world-renowned brand, loved by football fans all over the globe.”
