A Nacer Chadli brace meant that Mauricio Pochettino’s home debut ended in a comfortable 4-0 victory for Tottenham Hotspur against Queens Park Rangers.

Yet it was an unhappy return for former manager Harry Redknapp as he saw rejuvenated record signing Erik Lamela put in a show stopping performance; setting up two of the four goals.

A collector’s item last season, Chadli managed to level and overtake his league tally from 2013/14 with two goals either side of Eric Dier’s second goal in as many matches before half time.

Emmanuel Adebayor wrapped up the scoring in the second half with his first goal of the season to send Spurs top of the table.

Tottenham struggled last season after playing a midweek Europa League, taking 16 points from a possible 36.

But in truth, it was all too easy for Spurs as they dominated all departments from the first minute until the last.

And it did not take long for Spurs to hit the front when Adebayor’s flighted cross found Nacer Chadli who took the ball down on the chest and dinked it over Robert Green in the QPR net.

A swift counter from Spurs minutes later almost made it two as Jan Vertonghen marauded forward and saw his cross find Adebayor but his shot was straight at Green.

The North London side continued to turn over possession quickly; such is the style of Pochettino’s sides.

But they could have been pegged back after 20 minutes when Joey Barton’s long ball found midfielder Matt Phillips behind the Tottenham back line.

But he could only spurn his, and QPR’s only first half clear-cut chance over the bar.

An audacious 30-yard free kick from Christian Eriksen rattled the underside of the bar as Pochettino’s side kept the pressure on Redknapp’s side

Moments after, it was 2-0 as Dier stooped at the front post to bullet Erik Lamela’s corner into the top corner.

A mazey run from Lamela, who was in full throttle, resulted in a cross to Nacir Chadli who found the back of the net with a cushioned header.

Such as the ease of Tottenham’s lead, that the Spurs faithful could cheer each pass their side made before half time.

The second half continued in similar fashion as Spurs made all the inroads. A last ditch tackle from Rio Ferdinand stopped Eriksen making it four.

It became four on 64 minutes when a lovely give-and-go from Chadli and Danny Rose down the left wing resulted in Rose gifting the side’s fourth on a plate for Adebayor who bagged his first goal of the season.

Chadli was given a rousing reception form White Hart Lane when he was subbed off for Harry Kane on 68 minutes.

QPR thought they had a consolation goal when Rose headed the ball into his own net from a corner. But referee Anthony Taylor decided the Tottenham defender had been pushed.

Pochettino’s side are now top of the league in the embryonic stages of the Premier League table.

They face their first real test of the season next Sunday against Liverpool at White Hart Lane.
