Enfield Town began their pre-season preparations with a 1-1 draw at Bedford Town on Saturday.

Liverpool academy graduate Aaron King put Bedford ahead after 18 minutes but Enfield levelled after the break.

Ex-Watford youngster Michael Kalu got the goal, heading home after an impressive run from Tyler Campbell.

There were debuts for new signings Tyler Hastings, James Hawes and Neil Cousins, as well as young goalkeeper, Ollie Lesley.

Enfield Town will mark the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War with a match against Belgian side YB SK Beveren on July 26.

The Towners will also visit the Menin Gate, one of the memorials to the soldiers who lost their lives in Flanders Field.

Opponents Beveren have been selected as the first fan-owned club in Belgium and the two sides met in a friendly last year.

Chairman Paul Millington said: "Among other players who died during the Great War, Charles Blake was a former Enfield FC player who was aged just 26 he was killed in July 1917 and his name is one of the many on the Menin Gate. "It is right that we remember the sacrifice he and so many others made."

The club would be interested to hear from any descendants of Charles John Blake, who was a Private in the Devonshire Regiment 2nd Battalion, through Town director Ken Brazier.
