Enfield and Haringey's Chijindu Ujah was beaten in the final of 100m at the British Championships on Sunday by Dwain Chambers.
The 20-year-old sprinter, who recently became just the fifth Briton to run a sub-ten second time in the 100m, finished third to Chambers at the Alexander Stadium.
A time of 10.18 put Ujah six hundredths of a second behind 36-year-old The championships also doubled up as a qualifying event for the 2014 European Championships in Zurich, Switzerland, in August , with the top two athletes in each event securing automatic qualification.
Ujah narrowly missed out on second place to Harry Aikines-Aryeetey (10.14) and will now face a nervous wait before finding out his fate on July 15.
The British Athletics selection criteria states athletes will only be selected if they have a good chance of winning a medal at the championships in Zurich, or securing a top-eight finish in Switzerland and winning a medal at a future senior outdoor championships.
Chambers won his fifth successive 100m title at the British Championships and the Team GB Olympian paid tribute to the up-and-coming Ujah afterwards: "I train with CJ [Ujah] so I know how good he is in the second half of the race so I just tried to stay ahead of him. I put myself on the line knowing that if I didn’t do it now, then that was it."
Ujah’s Enfield team-mate, Sean Safo-Antwi, also reached the final, finishing sixth in a time of 10.30.
There was further success for Enfield and Haringey in the men's javelin final, where Bonne Buwembo took silver with a distance of 70.59, achieved with his final throw.
In the women's 200m final, Bianca Williams claimed silver with a time of 22.88. Williams was later disqualified in the 100m final.
Margaret Adeoye missed out on a medal in the same race, finishing fourth in 23.28.
Seventeen-year-old Callum Wilkinson was another stand-out performer for the club, finishing fifth in the 5000m racewalk with a personal best time of 21.52.01.
Efe Uwaifo came fourth in the triple jump final with a distance of 15.51, whilst Delano Williams was fourth in the 200m final in 20.94.
In the women's 100m final, Desiree Henry came fourth in a time of 11.36.
