Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Paulinho was an unused substitute as Brazil reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup on Saturday.
The 25-year-old was left out of Luiz Felipe Scolari's starting XI as the Selecao overcame Chile on penalties to set up a last-eight tie against Colombia.
Brazil took the lead after 18 minutes through PSG defender David Luiz but 14 minutes later, Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez levelled for Jorge Sampaoli's side.
Extra-time failed to produce a winner, with Brazil eventually winning 3-2 on penalties thanks to the heroics of Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Julio Cesar.
The former Internazionale keeper, who was on loan at Toronto last term, saved two penalties to take the hosts into the next round.
