Enfield's Denise Payet was in imperious form to win the Under-13 national table tennis singles title on Saturday.

The Enfield County School pupil also won the Under-14 doubles title with Kate Cheer - her victor in the Under-14 singles event.

Payet, who belongs to Ellenborough Table Tennis Club, breezed through the knockout stages in Doncaster without dropping an end to set up a final clash against Sophie Barlow, who had been taken to five ends in both her quarter and semi-final.

Victory was secured for Payet with a 3-1 win (11-5, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9) over Barlow.

Unable to repeat her success in the Under-14 final, Payet was beaten 6-11, 12-14, 12-10, 9-11 by second seed Cheer.

The pair teamed up in the doubles competition to beat second seeds isabelle Joubeily and Amy Blagborough 11-3, 11-4, 11-7.

Speaking afterwards, Payet said: "It’s been tiring, the schedule makes it difficult but I kept going by thinking about the medals and the trophies."

Meanwhile, Payet’s ETTC club-mate Amelia Chan reached the final of the Under-12 girls’ singles but was beaten 3-1 (11-7, 12-10, 10-12, 11-5) by Charlotte Bardsley.
