  • "I didn't see this one coming...!

Good luck Heurelho! I feel you may also be joined by a younger keeper at some point as well, with Bond perhaps going out on loan.

and thanks for the memories Manuel! In particular the double penalty save against Leicester. My fondest memory ever as a Watford fan I think!"

Watford have signed former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes on a one-year contract with the option of a further year.

The 33-year-old Brazilian will leave Spurs when his contract at White Hart Lane expires at the end of June and will subsequently join the Hornets.

On Thursday, Watford missed out on former Yeovil Town goalkeeper Marek Stech, who returned to first club Sparta Prague on a three-year deal.

Gomes moved to England in 2008 from Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven and was a regular between the sticks for Spurs until 2011, making 95 Premier League starts in three seasons.

Eventually ousted by Brad Friedel, Gomes was loaned out to Bundesliga side Hoffenheim in the 2012/13 season but played just nine times as injury curtailed his loan spell.

Born in Jao Pinheiro, Gomes began his career with Brazilian side Cruzerio before moving to Europe to join PSV in 2004, where he spent four years and made over 100 appearances.

The 6ft 3in gloveman is a Brazilian international and went to the 2010 World Cup with the Selecao.

Twice a Confederations Cup winner with Brazil, at club level Gomes has won the Eredivisie four times and the Brazilian Serie A once.
