Merryhills school won the annual Enfield schools tag rugby tournament held at Enfield Ignations last week.

The tournament attracted 120 players from ten different schools and was open to pupils in years three and four for the first time.

Eventual winners Merryhills pipped St Pauls to the title by virtue of their superior try count, whilst St Andrews came close in third place.

Ignatians' youth co-ordinator Brian Davey said: "Although some of the players had previous rugby experience, some of the newcomers really stood out by showing some great skills despite their limited experience.

"The teams were a mixture of boys and girls and it just goes to show that there is a lot of rugby talent in the borough."
