Two Enfield golfers will be bidding to compete for the Lombard Trophy at Gleneagles, just three weeks before the Ryder Cup begins at the famous venue.

John Granger, 61, earned the chance the tread the fairways at the Scottish resort by winning his club qualifying competition with a score of 66 Forty-eight year-old Martin Porter, a PGA professional at Enfield for the past nine years, will join Granger at the regional final at the Orsett Golf Club on June 24.

The pair will compete against up to 70 other clubs for the chance to secure one of 16 spots at the 36-hole grand final.

Now in its 30th year, the Lombard Trophy boasts entries from more than 700 clubs across the country, with a prize fund of £80,000 and a cheque of £12,000 for the winning professional.

Last year's winners were PGA professional Ian Walley and amateur partner Ian Neal from Kedleston Park Golf Club in Derbyshire.
