George Borg believes Enfield Town’s battle against Ryman Premier relegation has been harmed by a series of postponed fixtures.

Prior to last night’s 1-1 draw with Thamesmead Town, the Towners had played just once in three weeks. Their match against Bognor Regis Town on Saturday fell victim to the weather.

It has left Borg’s side with a number of games in hand on several of the teams around them in the table but the Enfield manager admits his small squad face a gruelling two months.

He said: “I’ve always stated that staying up wouldn’t be easy for us and it is probably that little bit harder with the games we’ve had called off.

“We don’t have the biggest squad and that will probably cost us because we will have to play three or four games a week to catch up.

“But we’ve got a great team spirit and I know the players will not give up and my staff and I will not give up. We will give everything to try and keep Enfield in the league.”

He continued: “I have looked at maybe trying to get a couple of players in because we will have problems if we have two or three injuries.

“I have taken a few days off work, so I am not getting paid, and am constantly on the phone seeing if I can bring in players.

“Unfortunately the better players want better money. Given our position that isn’t the attitude I want because those players may not want to come into a dog fight.

“That is why I have massive respect for the players here because they do want to fight to keep us up in this division.”

The Towners travel to Harrow Borough on Saturday and then welcome Dave Anderson’s men to the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium on Tuesday.

Borough sit 17th in the table and Borg admits the games could be vital to his side’s survival chances.

He explained: “I think these next three games (including last night’s match against Thamesmead) will be very important for us.

“If we are able to get six or seven points from those matches then that could be vital for us.

“If we lose all three, then that only makes it harder but we won’t give up.

“We’ll keep going until the end and no matter what happens it is a club that is going forward.”
