Enfield Town boss George Borg believes his side now have a great chance of staying up despite not playing at the weekend.

The Towners’ match against Lowestoft Town on Saturday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch but a 1-0 victory over Bury Town last Tuesday means Enfield are just two points away from escaping the relegation zone.

Borg’s men have lost just once in their last six league matches, prior to last night’s (Tuesday’s) match against Lewes, and the Enfield manager says confidence continues to grow amongst his squad.

“The results show how far we have come in a short space of time,” he said. “The turnaround has been fantastic and we are now looking above us at Thamesmead who’ve played several more matches than us.

“We have to take advantage of that and keep the pressure up on the teams above us. We have given ourselves a great chance of staying up and we will be fighting until the end of the season.

“If we stayed up then it couldn’t happen to nicer club, players and the fans. I have said before that the fans are the best in the league.”

Borg wasn’t at the victory against Bury due to illness but praised his staff and, in particular, kit man Neil Butterfield.

He explained: “Neil has been excellent since I joined the club. He was sending me 15 minute updates from the game and I have got to thank him for that.

“It was a massive result for us and we’ve got to keep going, there are still a lot of games to be played.”
