Enfield boxer Frank Buglioni secured the first title of his professional career as he knocked out Czech Republic fighter Stepan Horvath to clinch the WBO European super middleweight belt on Saturday.

Buglioni produced an assured display at the Copper Box to overcome Horvath, who had only been beaten once prior to the bout.

The 24-year-old, who had stopped seven of his last ten opponents, was in control of the fight from the first bell. He used his jab well and stayed clear of Horvath’s powerful left hand.

Buglioni’s opponent tired through the rounds but did do well in the seventh. However, the Enfield fighter then ended the contest in the eighth.

A crunching body shot from Buglioni left Horvath crouched in pain.

He managed to beat the count but Buglioni delivered another strong body shot to end the fight. The victory moves Buglioni to 11 victories and eight knock outs and he will now receive a top 15 ranking with the WBO.

There were contrasting fortunes for Chris and Andreas Evangelou as the duo made their maiden bouts since signing with Frank Warren. Light welterweight Chris was competing in his first fight since March and suffered a surprise defeat as he lost on points against Ashley Mayall.

‘The Flash’ was expected to overcome 20-year-old Mayall but the Oldham fighter upset the odds and triumphed 59-56 on the referee’s scorecard. It was the Enfield fighter’s third straight defeat since he stepped up in class.

Andreas fared better in his bout against Mitch Mitchell. The light heavyweight made it eight professional victories and a draw from his nine fights as he won on points against Mitchell.

The Evangelou brothers train at Edmonton Eagles ABC and on Thursday a crowd of 400 people attended the club’s show which featured eight bouts.

Head Coach Dr Evangelou was delighted with the evening and the tremendous support the club’s boxers received.

He said: “It was another hugely successful night for the club in providing an evening where our young stars gain experience to box competitively and an event for the whole community to come together and enjoy.”
