Argentina centre Marcelo Bosch to arrive at Saracens today as he completes move from Biarritz
New signing Marcelo Bosch will arrive at Saracens today (Thursday) as the Argentine centre completes his move from Biarritz.
The deal to sign Bosch, who has 23 caps for Argentina, has been in place since the summer but it was agreed the 29-year-old, who can also play fly-half and full-back, would not join the Men in Black until after the conclusion of the Rugby Championship.
Bosch scored a try as the Pumas lost their final match against Australia 54-17 on Sunday and the versatile back will now turn his attentions to his new club.
"He's a great acquisition," Paul Gustard told the Times Series. "We haven't obviously had the pleasure of working with Marcelo yet but anyone who's seen him play recently - he's been oustanding.
"He's a very talented footballer who can play in a lot of positions which is crucial when you go into game and you've only got 23 - if you've got a guy who can play in three or four positions in the back line it definitely helps.
"He's a very good goal-kicker as well, he defends very well, he uses the ball in his hands brilliantly.
"And on top of that going into Europe, when you can only register a certain number of players it's handy having some players who can play across the backline.
"So we're very fortunate to have secured Marcelo and we're looking forward to welcoming him to Saracens in our own way and looking forward to seeing him out on the pitch before too long."
Bosch is named in Saracens' official Heineken Cup squad but Gustard expects it to be a few weeks before the Argentinian pulls on the red and black jersey for the first time.
It is hoped he might feature for Sarries before Argentina’s autumn programme starts against England at Twickenham on November 9.
"We handle everything on a match by match basis but I don't see Marcelo playing for Saracens for a few weeks yet," Gustard added.
"You never know though, it all depends what the situation is and what our needs are but we need to let Marcelo settle.
"We need to let him get to grips with English life, make sure he feels comfortable and his family feels comfortable and we hope he'll enjoy his time whilst he's with us."
Bosch has scored 34 points for Argentina including three tries, two conversions and five penalties.
