There was a first national title for Enfield and Haringey Athletics Club walker Callum Wilkinson as he strode to victory at the England Athletics Under-17 championships in Bedford.
Wilkinson [pictured] convincingly won the 5000m walk after taking the lead in the closing stages of the race. He crossed the line in 23.28 which sealed top spot and ended the two-year unbeaten record of Cameron Corbishley, who finished second.
Wilkinson’s final race of the season is the English Schools 5000m at Birmingham on September 22, which is likely to be the toughest of the year as Corbishley endeavours to retain that title and reassert his mantle as the country’s leading Under-17 walker.
